How to spot a website of fakes!

Shopping for a wedding gown is not something brides anticipate can be filled with deceit and controversy but when you look at one of the 1,000+ online wedding gown sites who can you trust?

When you shop at a brick and mortar store you know that there is someone watching out for you and your gown. When you shop online you are putting the most important piece of clothing you will ever wear in the hands of someone you have never met, spoken with, or even been on the same continent as.

When a designer/store is willing to put their name on the line with the purchase of your dress you can bet they are making sure the quality is there. What does www..cheapwedding.com have to lose when you get a crappy dress?

So if you turn to the internet to shop for a wedding gown be sure to do your homework on the website.

Here are 5 signs the website is a scam.

1.  No photo’s are identified with the actual designer. You have poured over wedding gown sites and bridal magazines how many times do you not know who makes the dress? If the only name you can associate with the dress is followed by .com it is a safe bet this website is NOT selling the real designer dress.

You can also check with the actual designer to see if the website is an authorized dealer for the gown you are looking at.

2.  They ship DSL. DSL in an international shipper. They do NOT ship from one USA city to another USA city. So you are buying direct from another country.

Insider tip: You may say but the dress is made in China regardless of if I buy it from a store or a website what is the difference? When a designer makes a dress they have someone they employ on site checking the dresses to make sure the same beadwork, fabric, inner construction and pattern are being followed. The dress is then checked again when it comes into the warehouse and when it comes to the store that you purchased it from. When you cut out those checks no one is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the original design.

3.  It comes in EVERY color you can imagine. Most designers limit the production of a dress to a handful of colors. If it comes in a different color than the actual designer offers the dress in, the website is a scam.

4.  The price is WAY less than what you are seeing in the stores you are looking at. If the price is too good to be true remember you get what you pay for. Are you looking at a BMW that is priced like a used wood paneled station wagon?

5.  They sell non wedding related items. Not all scam websites do this but if you can buy a radio the same place you can buy your wedding gown this probably isn’t the best place to shop.

So be sure to follow your instincts and do your homework. The safest bet is to shop in a brick and mortar store and know what you are getting.
